Within this brand new role, you will have the ability to help deliver a progressive and ambitious bus service improvement plan. You will be a strong communicator with great interpersonal skills as you will be dealing with stakeholders, politicians and bus operators.

As a Bus Development Manager you will be responsible for leading and developing a high performing team to manage all aspects of the planning, development and delivery of the bus services in the West Midlands.

What will you be doing?

• Responsible for the strategic planning and development of the West Midlands Bus Network
• Delivery of all aspects of subsidised bus services
• Develop and deliver robust processes to manage, monitor and report overall performance of the bus network
• Ensure timely engagement with bus operators on any issues regarding non adherence of registrations to statutory partnerships
• Responsible for the delivery of all aspects of the West Midlands Ring and Ride and Demand Responsive Transport service, ensuring that robust contracts are in place for effective delivery
• Develop the Bus Network and Performance Team to provide (Bus) Traffic Management Responsibilities as part of their core function
• Monitor and assist in the reporting of the financial performance of all appropriate budgets

On occasion, you will be required to to work outside normal office hours, including weekends. This will also include attendance at internal and external operational control centres to assist in the management of the network during planned and unplanned events. There is an expectation that you will also be part of the silver on-call rotation, providing 24 hr response to operational issues across the integrated network.

About you

To be successful in this role the below is essential:

• Proven track record of leadership and customer focus in the bus service delivery sector
• Experience of working with Local Highways Authorities and influencing change for the benefit of sustainable modes
• Experience of the operation, planning and management of public transport operations
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven track record of negotiating and influencing skills
• Be able to effectively communicate at all levels through different methods

Good analytical skills and the ability to review information and determine the best approach would be desirable. It would be great if you were able to make decisions effectively, using your own knowledge or available data.

It would be beneficial if you have an active membership for the transport sector and it would be advantageous if you have knowledge of the relevant Acts of Parliament and related legislation for bus services and traffic management responsibilities.
