Yorkshire Coastliner service to become express route

Transdev Blazefield subsidiary Yorkshire Coastliner is to circumvent free concessionary travel rules by reclassifying some journeys on its routes between Leeds and Scarborough and Leeds and Whitby as express services for a three hour period each morning.

From later this month, buses will stop at RIllington, outside Malton, and continue non-stop to Scarborough. On Whitby services the last stop will be Thornton-le-Dale.

Nigel Eggleton, Transdev Blazefield’s sales and marketing director, said that the operator is prohibited from charging on a local bus service, but fares can be levied on an express service as long as it does not stop for 15 miles.

“The revenue we earn through this action will in part offset the loss incurred following the change to reimbursement levels,” he added.
