Brisbane-based firm has built a 1,000 bus business

There’s a new name in the UK bus market with the £21.3m acquisition of three London bus garages by Australia’s Transit Systems Group.

The Brisbane-based business was formed in 1995 by three experienced bus managers after winning a single operating contract in the western city of Perth. Expansion followed with additional contracts there and also in Adelaide. Since then the group has built a solid reputation for its contract management of bus services and today Transit Systems operates more than 1,000 vehicles in the Australian market.

Its activities have also expanded in recent years to include ferry operation in Queensland and later this year Transit Systems will take on a major 200-bus contract in the central south-western area of the Sydney metropolitan area.

The business remains in family ownership under the leadership of chief executive Clint Feuerherdt. With its entry into the UK market, it is likely that Transit Systems will be examining further UK growth opportunities. With its background in contracted operations, this could include any potential opportunities offered by Quality Contracts as well as the London market.
