Arriva commences major Swedish transport contract

Arriva has commenced the first phase of a major new multi-modal transport contract to provides bus and rail services in the Swedish capital of Stockholm.

The 12-year contract, awarded by regional transport authority Storstockholms Lokaltrafik, sees the group assume control of 255 buses and 82 light rail vehicles. The second phase, which will commence in January 2013, will add a further 484 buses and 183 trams.

To mark the handover, Arriva staff handed out 15,000 red roses to commuters in the city as part of a new marketing campaign to encourage ideas from passengers about how public transport services can be improved.

The passenger who provides the best idea will be rewarded with free travel on public transport in Stockholm for seven years.
