French railway company SNCF launches a new network of cross-border coach services later this month, competing with Megabus and Eurolines

French state railway SNCF is the latest company to take advantage of the liberalisation of Europe’s market for long distance coach services. The company will
begin operating a new network of cross-border services linking Paris with London, Brussels and Amsterdam on July 23.

SNCF has sought to create an upmarket product rather than compete with existing operators Eurolines and Megabus on price alone. “This is about trying to get people out of their cars,” explained Paul Bunting, who has spent the past year working on the project for SNCF.
