Consultants The TAS Partnership have announced plans to commemorate Peter Huntley’s life with an event on June 13, 2012, in association with Go Ahead Group plc, for whom Peter also worked as managing director of bus company Go North East between 2006 and 2011.

TAS managing director Adrian Grant explained: “Peter lived in Preston –so the events of the day will take place here. Peter was committed to public transport –so we hope that people will plan their journey to arrive at the train station, preferably, or the bus station, or use the Park & Ride.

“Peter loved the open air, so there will be a walk – from Preston Train Station to Preston Bus Station. Peter continually raised money for charity, so the walk will be a sponsored walk, the proceeds of which will be distributed among the charities that Peter supported.

“Peter was interested in industrial and architectural heritage, so the walk will take in many of Preston’s historic sites. It will be some five miles long, and the day’s schedule allows ample time for you to complete it. Of course, if you want to wimp out, you can do the direct route which is less than a mile, but what would Peter have said?

“Peter liked to talk over a pint, so at the end of the walk, the first pint will be on us. Peter was at the forefront of thinking about and analysing how to improve public transport. And putting his ideas, and those of other leading operators into practice, with Go North East. So after you get your pint, you can take part in a presentation of the last piece of research that Peter was working on. This will be led by Chris Cheek, and the members of the TAS Policy Exchange, the think tank that Peter founded with Chris in 2010.”

People who want to register to attend the event can do so via the TAS web site at
