Translink, Northern Ireland’s state-owned has ordered a further 30 coaches from Spanish manufacturer Sunsundegui.

Production of the vehicles is now underway and it follows delivery of 30 14.3-metre Volvo B11R triaxle coaches in 2019. The high specification 12.5mtr, two axle coaches currently in build are constructed to a bespoke specification for Translink and will operate in Northern Ireland on their Goldline service.

Will Campbell, project manager for Translink, said: “Like any bus and coach operator, fuel economy is particularly important to us and the B11R delivers improved fuel savings, whilst at the same time delivering added passenger comfort for those longer journeys. The 14.3m coaches have received a very positive reaction from our passengers and drivers alike, since their introduction in July 2019 and this is expected to be replicated when the new 12.5m coaches enter service later this year.”

Richard Mann, Volvo account manager, added: “Following a very positive reaction to the new coaches delivered last year we are delighted that this long established customer has once again turned to Volvo for ongoing fleet replacement and have placed a repeat order for 2020.”
