Current circumstances have forced the group revisit how it is funded and resourced

The Diversity and Inclusion Bus Group is seeking support for its efforts to accelerate diversity in the bus industry.

The group was set up last year and forms part of Women in Transport, a not-for-profit organisation that empowers individuals and businesses to maximise their potential. Their members are made up of all genders, and together they aim to promote a diverse and strong transport workforce that supports the UK economy.

“Overall we’re aiming to help shape our future as a progressive industry,” explains group member Chloe Leach-O’Connell. “And as we push forward with technologies and green solutions, it’s never been more key that we are able to attract and retain skills and talent.

Gen Z expect to work within a welcoming, tolerant and culturally diverse workforce, and it’s our job to make sure they choose to come to us, to work in one of the very best industries this country has to offer – buses

“Gen Z expect to work within a welcoming, tolerant and culturally diverse workforce, and it’s our job to make sure they choose to come to us, to work in one of the very best industries this country has to offer – buses.”

The Diversity and Inclusion Bus Group meets around four times a year and is made up of industry peers from a variety of functions, levels and companies. The group focusses on three main areas:

  1. Leading change and how to make a difference
  2. External communications, improving perceptions of the industry
  3. Sharing data and knowledge

Current circumstances have forced the group revisit how it is funded and resourced, and it is now seeking corporate sponsors.

Leach-O’Connell adds: “So far, and in just 12 months, we’ve already had fantastic support from our friends across the industry and made big strides. CPT is a key partner in some fabulous new plans too, unfortunately all cut short by Covid-19. However we know we’ll be back on track with them soon.

In order to move forward, and to be able to continue with the work we’re doing, we would like more organisations across the UK to join us

“In order to move forward, and to be able to continue with the work we’re doing, we would like more organisations across the UK to join us. For a small annual fee your company would become a corporate sponsor of the group and in return you and your colleagues would play a key part in helping to take this important agenda forward.”
