Network and Forward Planning Officer

Location: Based at County Hall, Hertford; occasional need for travel across the County
Salary Range: £31,371 progressing to £33,799 pa
Hours: 37 per week
Contract: Permanent

An opportunity has arisen for a new Network and Forward Planning Officer within the Passenger Transport Unit. The role will support the Network and Travel Planning team to implement the county council’s Local Transport Plan 4.

Forecasts predict that by 2050, the population of Hertfordshire will have grown by around 400,000 to over 1.5m, having a major impact on traffic congestion and journey times, particularly during peak travel periods. To date, over 30 Air Quality Management Areas have been designated, and obesity costs the county an estimated £404 million per year.

The role seeks to make Hertfordshire’s transport network more sustainable, increasing opportunities for residents to travel to school or work by public transport, facilitating behaviour change, and reducing reliance on single-occupancy cars.

The role of the Network and Forward Planning Officer is to work with the planning process to secure developer commitments and financial contributions which maximise sustainable access and ensure sustainable options are considered at the earliest design stages. The post-holder will also engage in bus network planning, with responsibilities for supporting the planning, procurement and contract management of the county’s network of contracted local bus services.

The role is very varied and fast-paced with regular deadlines, and requires someone who is comfortable working with people across multiple teams and organisations, and is committed to the outcomes of sustainable transport.
