Hybrid-powered buses have embedded themselves in the mainstream in the UK bus industry over the past five years, thanks to successive rounds of the Green Bus Fund in England and Scotland.

There are now approaching 2,000 hybrid diesel/electric buses in service in the UK and the market leader is BAE Systems, through its partnership with bus manufacturer Alexander Dennis.

In North America, hybrid buses are even more firmly embedded in the mainstream, representing 13% of the fleet.

Passenger Transport has produced a special supplement about North America’s hybrid bus revolution, sponsored by BAE Systems’ HybriDrive Solutions, a market leader in the supply of hybrid technology for buses on both sides of the Atlantic.

This special publication includes an exclusive interview with Michael Melaniphy, president and CEO of APtA, the Washington-based American Public transportation Association.
