First Glasgow last week launched its biggest ever marketing campaign. The bus company is to distribute ‘Christmas vouchers’ to 420,000 households in the city – with each leaflet containing travel discount vouchers worth £2.5m.

The £2.5m giveaway is part of First’s Christmas marketing campaign: ‘Great reasons to use First this festive season!’.

And customers making use of the money-off vouchers will also have the chance to win prizes such as iPad minis, shopping vouchers and free bus travel.

Launching the campaign was First’s very own Santa Claus, Michael Cole (pictured), who is a bus inspector by day. He said: “My colleagues and many of our customers seem to think I look like Santa Claus even without the outfit. I was therefore only too happy to dress up as my lookalike and help First launch the £2.5m Christmas giveaway.”

First’s commercial manager, John Elliot, commented: “In the run up to Christmas we’re urging more residents in our network area to leave the car behind and make more journeys by bus. So, from next week householders can expect to receive money-saving vouchers, an early Christmas gift, through their letterboxes.”

In May, First launched a new, simplified bus network in Glasgow – simpliCITY. Buses now operate as frequently as every five minutes.
