Official at South Yorkshire PTE warns that Quality Contracts ‘could put us into deficit’ as ground breaking new partnership with operators is launched.

For the past five years, South Yorkshire PTE has perhaps been the most enthusiastic supporter of powers to take back control of buses through Quality Contracts. However, at a meeting the region’s ITA earlier this month, one of the PTEs key officials warned that the cost of Quality Contracts “could put us into deficit”.

David Young, SYPTE’s director of customer experience, meanwhile said that partnership with bus companies was delivering significant improvements. Commenting on the Sheffield and South Rotherham Bus Partnership, which goes live on July 24, he said that bus operators “are prepared to deliver virtually everything we’re asking for – and what could be delivered from a QC – in one corridor”.
